A nanny doing preschool pickup near the Via Marina neighborhood in Oxnard called me on a Wednesday afternoon. She had a 2008 Kia Sorento, two kids buckled in the back, and a remote that had gone through a wash cycle. The buttons did nothing. No lock chirp, no unlock, nothing.

I pulled into the preschool lot about 35 minutes after the call. The Sorento's remote is the PLNHM-T011, four-button unit running on a CR2032. No transponder in the ignition key on this generation, so starting the car was never the problem. She just could not lock or unlock from the fob.
I opened up the washed remote. The board had visible corrosion on a couple of the button contact pads. Cleaned what I could, but the damage was past saving. Programmed a new PLNHM-T011 remote to the vehicle's receiver, tested all four buttons including the hatch release, and confirmed range from about 30 feet out.
She pulled out of that lot with both kids and a working remote, well before the parents got home. The dealer would have had her waiting days for something that took me less than an hour on site.
