2004 Kia Sorento Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Nyeland Acres called on a weekday morning. His 2004 Sorento had been sitting in the driveway for two days because his only key snapped off at the bow. The blade was still inside the ignition cylinder.
He had already called the Kia dealer in the area. They told him the car would need to come in, that they'd have to order a blank, and that he was looking at several days minimum. He couldn't tow a car with a broken key stuck in the ignition without risking damage to the cylinder, and he said the tow quote alone was more than he wanted to spend on the whole job.
I drove out to him. First step was extracting the broken blade from the ignition with a pick set, which came out clean without scoring the cylinder. Once it was out, I decoded the cut from the original blade pieces and the door lock, cross-referenced the key code, and cut a new key on the spot from a blank I had in the van.
Tested it in the door, tested it in the ignition. Turned right over.
He said he expected it to be a whole ordeal. It took less than thirty minutes from the time I walked up the driveway to the time I handed him two working keys. The dealer comparison came up on its own when he asked what they would have charged. I just told him to call us first next time.
