Saturday night near the Westlake Village area in Thousand Oaks, a couple came out of a sushi place and their 2013 Kia Sorento would not respond. Dead fob. I was about 15 minutes out with the right stock already in the van. HY22 laser blanks, SY5HMFNA04 shells, CR2032 cells, emergency blades, all in labeled drawers behind my seat. When I pulled up, the first thing I did was crack the fob. The CR2032 was completely drained. Swapped it, cleaned the battery contact plate, and reseated everything flush.
Fob range came back immediately. Proximity unlock on both front handles responded. Push-to-start fired on the first press. I walked the full button set anyway: lock, unlock, hatch, panic. All clean.
They drove home that night instead of calling a cab and waiting until Monday for a dealer appointment. When the parts are already stocked, a 9pm Saturday call goes the same as a 9am Tuesday.
