Worst case on a 2023 Kia Sorento is an all-keys-lost smart key where the car battery died during programming and the immobilizer throws errors. Power interruption mid-security-handshake can lock the IMMO module into a fault state that makes some locksmiths pack up and leave.

The fault cleared and the new fob learned on the first attempt.

Total was about an hour and a half. His bill was 264. The alternative was a flatbed to the dealer, a multi-day wait, and 463 or more.
