My key broke in the ignition. Can you get it out?

Yes. Broken key extraction is a standard job for a mobile automotive locksmith. We use specialized tools to remove the broken piece without damaging your Mazda's ignition cylinder. Mazda switchblade and flip keys are a known weak point, especially on Mazda2, Mazda3, and MX-5 models. Owners report loose blades, cracked shells from the pivot pin wearing down, and stuck flip mechanisms from worn springs and debris buildup. Once the broken piece is out, we can cut a new key and program it on the spot.

What is a smart key?

Accepted Answer

A smart key is the type of key your 2021 Mazda 6 uses. It combines a physical key blade with an electronic transponder chip and 4 buttons for remote functions. The chip communicates with your Mazda's immobilizer to authorize the engine to start. If the blade breaks but the electronics are still intact, we can often transfer the chip into a new key shell and save you the cost of a full replacement. If both are damaged, we cut and program a completely new key on site.

My Mazda says key not detected. What do I do?

Start with the basics. Replace the fob battery, since a dead battery is the most common cause of "key not detected" on Mazdas. Some Mazda fobs also have a power-save mode that disables communication. Press the lock button four times and hold on the fifth press to wake the fob back up. If you have a smart key, try holding the fob directly against the start button and pressing the brake. That uses the backup antenna and often works when the battery is low. If none of that works, the issue may be the fob, the car's antenna, or the immobilizer, and that is when you call us for a diagnosis.

What is the FCC ID for the 2021 Mazda 6 key?

The FCC ID is WAZSKE13D03. This identifier on the back of your fob tells us exactly which replacement key your vehicle needs. If your key is broken or damaged and you can still read the FCC ID on the old fob, give it to us when you call. It speeds up the process and guarantees we bring the exact right key to your location. If the fob is too damaged to read, we can identify it from your vehicle's year, make, and model.

Is all-keys-lost more expensive than a regular replacement?

Yes. When you still have one working key, adding a spare is straightforward and less labor intensive. When all keys are lost, the Mazda immobilizer requires a full reset before new keys can be programmed, and some models require two new fobs to complete the procedure. A 2022 CX-5 owner was quoted $900 at the dealer for AKL with two fobs, while a spare key at the same dealer runs $400 to $500. With us the gap is smaller, but AKL still costs more because of the extra work involved. That is why we always tell customers: get a spare made while you still have a working key.
