A gymnastics coach in Ventura, over near Cemetery Memorial Park, called the Mazda dealer on a Tuesday about his 2012 Mazda 6. He needed a replacement smart key. They told him Friday at the earliest, and that assumed the fob was in stock. If not, add another few days for shipping.
He's a single dad. Drives his daughter to practice every afternoon, then works two jobs. Four days without a car was not going to happen.
I was in his studio parking lot that same Tuesday afternoon.
I plugged into the OBD-II port and ran the Mazda advanced smart key registration through my Smart Pro. There is a timed security countdown on these, about seven minutes where you sit and watch the progress bar crawl. Nothing you can rush. While it ran, I cut the emergency insert blade using a Lishi MAZ24 decode off his door lock, then verified the blade in both the door and the ignition. Mazda keyways mix tip-stop and shoulder-stop cuts, so you always test before committing to a final cut.
Once the security timer cleared, I registered his new KR55WK49383 fob. Walked every button: lock, unlock, trunk release, push-to-start. All good. Then I checked that the old missing fob was erased from the system so nobody could walk up and start his car with it later.
Tuesday call, Tuesday fix. He was back on the road before his daughter's evening class. The dealer would have had him in a rental or bumming rides until the weekend.
