A couple near San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito came out of a Friday dinner at 8:45pm to a 2007 Mazda 6 that wouldn't do anything. No chirp, no door unlock, nothing from the fob. They figured the car was stranded until Monday when a dealer could look at it.

The CR2025 was corroded on one side, just enough green crust on the negative contact to kill the signal. Cleaned it, dropped in a fresh cell, reseated the battery clip, and the fob lit up on the first press. Doors responded. Push-button start fired the Duratec 2.3 right up. No reprogramming needed because the fob never actually lost its pairing with the keyless control module.
They drove home that night. The whole thing took less time than waiting for a tow truck to even pick up the phone. When everything is stocked in the van, a call at 8:45pm on a Friday plays out the same as 9am on a Tuesday.
