2011 Acura RDX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2011 Acura RDX Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Old Town National City sits close to the water, and the guys who work on boats around there keep odd hours. I got a call on a Tuesday afternoon from a mechanic who had been watching my channel for a while before he ever needed me.

He had a 2011 RDX, first-generation body, and one working key. The flip blade on his only fob had snapped at the pivot. The blade was rattling around loose inside the fob housing, and he had been starting the car by holding the broken pieces together just right. He said he had been doing it for two weeks. That kind of patience impresses me.

I met him near his shop in Old Town National City. The fob body itself was still intact, which mattered because the transponder chip inside was already registered to the car. I cut a new flip key to match his door and ignition, transferred what needed transferring, and programmed the replacement to the immobilizer using the right equipment for this generation. Then I ran through the remote functions, lock, unlock, and the trunk release, tested the blade in both the door and the ignition, and cold-started the car three times to confirm the transponder was reading clean.

He asked what the dealer would have wanted. I told him to think about what his time was worth and what towing a running car to a dealership would have cost on top of that. He laughed and said he already knew the answer, that is why he had my number saved.
