2025 Acura RDX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was August in the Richland area of San Marcos, and she had her dog in the back seat.
They had just finished a vet appointment. She walked out, hit the fob, nothing happened. The car sat there locked, engine off, windows cracked maybe an inch. The dog was panting. She could see him from outside the glass.
She called the dealer. They told her the earliest available slot was the next afternoon. She called me instead, and I told her I was about twenty minutes out.
When I got there, the first thing I did was get the door open so the dog could come out and get into the shade. That part took about three minutes. Everything else could wait until he was out of that car.
Then I looked at the fob. The battery had corroded inside the housing, and the corrosion had shorted across the circuit board. The fob was not recoverable. I had the correct replacement in the van, connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port, and walked through the programming sequence to pair the new fob to her vehicle's security system. After that I ran every function: door lock, unlock, the hatch, and confirmed the engine started clean before I packed up.
Start to finish from her phone call, forty-four minutes. The dog was fine and she did not have to leave a car in an August parking lot overnight waiting for a dealer slot.
That detail about the dealer, the next-afternoon appointment, that's almost a footnote compared to the dog. But it's worth saying out loud.
