2007 Acura TSX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: What exactly is a transponder key and how does it work on the 2007 TSX?

A transponder key looks like a regular metal key but has a small chip embedded in the plastic head. When you insert it and turn the ignition, the car sends a signal to that chip. The chip responds with its own signal. If the immobilizer recognizes that response as valid, it allows the engine to start. If it doesn't, the engine won't run, or it starts briefly and shuts off. There are no buttons on this key.

Q: How does your pricing compare to the Acura dealer for a 2007 TSX key?

Dealer pricing on transponder key replacement involves the key itself, programming labor, and whatever their minimum shop time is. Owners who've gone that route report paying noticeably more than they expected, even on an older vehicle. We come to you in Downtown Fallbrook, do the cut and program on site, and charge a fraction of what the dealer quotes. Call for current pricing. You'll hear the difference right away.

Q: My 2007 TSX starts and then immediately stalls. Could this be a key problem?

Yes, and it's one of the more common calls I get on this generation. Start-and-immediate-stall is the classic sign that the immobilizer didn't recognize the key. The engine fires because the ignition circuit is fine, then shuts down in the first second or two because the security system cut fuel or spark after rejecting the transponder signal.

Q: I bought a replacement key online for my 2007 TSX. Can I program it myself?

Probably not. The 2007 TSX does not have a widely available owner-accessible add-a-key relearn sequence the way some domestic vehicles of that era do. Programming the transponder chip to the immobilizer requires external equipment and the right software for Honda and Acura systems. If you already have a working key and want to add a spare, that's a shorter job than all-keys-lost. But you still need someone with the tooling.

2007 Acura TSX Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked off Main Avenue in Downtown Fallbrook. He had a 2007 Acura TSX and one key to his name. That key had snapped at the bow, the plastic head where you grip it, and the blade was still in decent shape but completely unusable without something to turn it with.

He'd already tried the hardware store. They cut him a copy from the blade profile, no chip, just metal. It turned the ignition cylinder cleanly. The engine cranked, fired up for about two seconds, and died. He tried it four more times before he called me. He thought the copy was cut wrong.

I told him over the phone that the cut was probably fine. The issue was that the copy had no transponder chip inside, so the immobilizer in the TSX rejected it after that brief start. The car was doing exactly what it was supposed to do.

I drove out, pulled up next to him on the street. Verified the blade profile on his broken original, programmed a new key with the correct chip, and cut it to match. Started right up. He held onto the new key for a second before he put it in his pocket, like he was making sure it was real.

The hardware store visit wasn't a waste, it just wasn't the whole job. He needed the transponder side handled, and that part isn't a walk-in counter service.

Acura TSX Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Why is Acura key replacement so expensive?▼

Part of it is the technology. Even a transponder key like the one on your 2007 TSX requires programming equipment to pair the chip to your specific immobilizer. That's not a cut-and-hand-over job. The dealer layers on top of that: shop rate, service writer time, parts markup, and the fact that they're not really competing for your key business the way a locksmith is. They can quote high and know a lot of owners will just pay it.
