All-keys-lost is a different job. The immobilizer has to be fully reset, every previously registered key gets wiped, and the new key is enrolled as the only one the car knows. On the 2012 TSX that reset sequence runs through the OBD port and has a timed portion you cannot rush.

The practical advice: get a spare made while you still have a working key. It is the faster job and the more affordable one. Waiting until you are stuck with zero keys costs more every time.

Not necessarily. If the key still turns and starts the car, the transponder chip is alive. What usually fails first on these is the remote side -- the RF transmitter that handles the door buttons. A few things to check before assuming the fob is done.

First, the CR1616. That battery is thinner than what most people expect, and a partially dead one will lose the remote signal long before it affects the transponder. Swap it with a known fresh CR1616, not a different size.

Second, the fob housing. The flip mechanism on these keys puts repeated stress on the pivot point, and a cracked or flexed housing can break the internal contact between the battery and the board. If you see any crack in the plastic, that is likely your answer.

If the battery is good and the housing is solid and the buttons still do nothing, the board or the transmitter itself may have failed. At that point you are looking at a replacement fob, which still needs to be cut and programmed to your car. That is a job I handle on site.

Can I program a replacement flip key for my 2012 TSX myself at home?

Not on this vehicle. The 2012 TSX does not have an onboard self-programming sequence for adding new keys. Some older Honda and Acura models had an ignition-cycle relearn you could do in your driveway. This generation does not. Programming requires a tool connected to the OBD port that can communicate with the immobilizer.

If you bought a replacement fob online, you still need a locksmith or dealer to pair it. The key is not registered until that step is done, and an unregistered key will not start the car.
