I was parked on Grand Avenue in Downtown Escondido finishing up another job when the call came in. Woman, Downtown Escondido area, 2008 TSX, lost her only key somewhere during a double shift. It was late, she was exhausted, and she had already spent twenty minutes looking before she called me.
First thing she said was that she had a spare key at home but it stopped working about a year ago and she never got around to dealing with it. So now she had zero working keys and a car sitting in a grocery store lot.
I asked her to pull up her insurance app for the VIN and she found it without much trouble. That was enough for me to confirm the key type and pull the right blank before I drove over. When I got there she was sitting on a planter near the cart return, still in her scrubs.

I ran the procedure through the OBD port, cut the blade to her vehicle, enrolled the transponder, and tested it three times before I handed it over. Started clean every time.
Then I asked about that old spare. She had it in her bag. Same issue: transponder not enrolled. I added it as a second key right there so she would not end up in this spot again.
She drove home with two working keys. The dealer was not even open.
