2002 Audi A8
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2002 Audi A8 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in National City, near Bay Marina, a woman called me about her 2002 Audi A8. She had one working key left and wanted a spare before that last one gave out.

She'd already called the Audi dealer and gotten a quote that came back in pieces, key blank, cutting, programming labor, shop supplies, all itemized separately and adding up to a number that made her pause. They also told her the car would need to be dropped off.

She was parked near her office and had maybe an hour.

I pulled up, plugged into the OBD port under the dash, and let the diagnostic tool do what it does. On the 2002 A8, the PIN code has to be extracted from the immobilizer system before a new key can be registered. No PIN, no programming. Once I had it, I cut the replacement blade on my machine in the van, assembled the fob, and walked through the registration sequence. The whole thing took about 30 minutes on site.

She tested both keys before I packed up. Both started the car. Both remote functions worked. She had a spare in her hand and got back to her afternoon without leaving the parking lot.

The dealer comparison came up almost as an aside. She mentioned the quote, I told her mine was one number covering everything. That was pretty much the whole conversation about it.
