2012 Audi A8
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Audi A8 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Ramona Country Estates, late on a weeknight, I got a call from a woman who works overnight hospital shifts. She needed a spare key for her 2012 Audi A8 before her next run of nights started.

Before she even told me what she needed, she told me she had already looked up my license number. She works alone in a dim parking structure late at night and was not going to call an unverified stranger to stand next to her car in the dark. That made complete sense to me. I told her exactly what she would see when she checked: my BSIS license, active liability insurance, and the Google Guaranteed badge that means Google verified both independently.

She met me in her driveway. The A8 was there, one working fob, and she wanted a second one programmed before she lost the first.

I pulled up the vehicle through the OBD port, confirmed the current key count, and walked through the enrollment process for the new fob. The A8's security system is not quick about this. There is a timed sequence and the system has to communicate through multiple modules before it accepts a new key. I stayed methodical, let it run, and did not rush it.

When the new fob enrolled, I tested every button, checked the emergency blade seated properly in the fob body, and walked her through pulling the blade out in case she ever needed it.

She was back inside before midnight. The dealer had been on her list as an option, but she had already seen what they quoted for Audi key work. What she paid me was a fraction of that, and she did not have to leave the car somewhere for a day to get it done.
