I got a call from a guy in the Fire Mountain area of Oceanside. He had a 2003 Audi A8 and one working key. His wife had the spare in her purse on a trip and it went through the wash. The fob survived, sort of. The remote buttons stopped responding and he was not sure if the transponder was also gone or just the remote side.
He had already called the Audi dealer. They told him they would need the car brought in, they would need to order the key through their system, and he should plan on several days. He did not love that answer.

When I pulled up, I had the right fob body and a fresh CR2032. We went through the key cut first, matching the blade to his vehicle, then moved into programming. On a 2003 A8, the immobilizer sequence runs through the diagnostic port and requires dedicated equipment to read the existing key data and register the new fob correctly. You are not guessing at it with a generic tool.
The programming went clean. Remote lock, unlock, and the other functions all tested out. He stood next to me the whole time watching it happen, which I actually prefer. People understand what they are paying for when they can see it.
The dealer comparison came up at the end, almost as an aside. He had already checked out of that option before he called me.
