It was close to 10pm in a Kearny Mesa office park, the kind of lot that goes quiet fast once the last business closes, and an accountant was standing next to his 2009 A8 with nothing. Tax season.

Then I walk every function before I call it done: lock, unlock, the trunk release, and the panic button, plus confirming the car actually starts and runs.
He drove home that night. The dealer was closed, would have needed the car towed to them, and the quote would have been a different conversation entirely. The VIN text before I arrive still speeds things up. It's the one thing worth having ready.
