My key broke in the ignition. Can you get it out?

Yes. Broken key extraction is a standard job for a mobile automotive locksmith. We use specialized tools to remove the broken piece without damaging your Cadillac's ignition cylinder. Once it is out, we can cut a new key from the extracted piece or from your vehicle's lock data and program it on the spot. Older Cadillac SRX models are known for keys getting stuck due to the brake transmission shift interlock mechanism. One 2005 SRX owner showed that a stuck key can be released by bypassing the BTSI interlock under the steering column, a procedure a locksmith can do in minutes without damaging anything.

Start with the basics. Replace the fob battery, since a dead battery is the most common cause of "no remote detected" on Cadillacs. If you have a smart key, most modern Cadillacs from the XT and CT series have a molded pocket in the center console shaped like the fob. Place the fob in that pocket and press the start button while pressing the brake. That uses the backup inductive signal and often works when the battery is low. A 2010 SRX owner reported intermittent "no remote detected" messages that turned out to be a BCM or antenna issue, not a bad fob. If a fresh battery and the backup method do not work, call us for a diagnosis.

When all keys are lost, the GM theft deterrent system requires a full immobilizer learn that wipes all stored keys and reprograms from scratch. That reset adds mandatory wait cycles and complexity to the job. An ATS-V owner was quoted $540 plus towing at the dealer for all-keys-lost. With us the gap is smaller, but AKL still costs more than a spare because of the extra work involved. That is why we always tell customers: get a spare made while you still have a working key.
