2017 Cadillac ATS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A condo resident near the Border Area called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He had one working smart key for his 2017 Cadillac ATS and wanted a spare cut and programmed before that single fob became a problem. Smart move. He'd already called the dealer and gotten a quote that made him pause, so he looked for another option.
I pulled up to his building and got started at the vehicle. The ATS uses a passive entry setup, so the first thing I did was decode the door lock mechanically so I could cut a matching blade for the new fob's emergency insert. That part matters more than people realize. If the fob battery ever fully dies or the electronics act up, that blade is what gets you into the car and gets the ignition turning.
Once the blade was cut and fit-tested, I connected to the OBD port and registered the new fob through the immobilizer. The process has a timed component built into the GM security system, so you can't just rush through it. Total time on-site was right around 40 minutes.
He tested the passive door unlock walking up to the car, ran all five buttons, verified the emergency blade in the door lock, and we were done. He saved a good chunk versus what the dealer quoted him, and he never left the building.
