2011 Dodge Challenger
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Can you delete lost or stolen fobs from my Challenger so they no longer work?

Yes, and on the 2011 Challenger this is handled the right way through a full key clear during programming. The standard all-keys-lost procedure wipes every previously registered fob and starts the list fresh. Only the keys physically present and programmed during that session will work afterward. If your fob was just lost and might turn up later, some owners ask to add a new key without clearing the old one. But if it was stolen, tell me that upfront.

Q: Does my 2011 Challenger smart fob have a hidden emergency blade?

It does, and on the 2011 Challenger it's more obvious than on some other Dodge fobs because the blade folds right out of the body of the fob at the pivot. This is a flip-key design, so the mechanical blade is built in rather than hidden behind a release button the way later push-to-start fobs work. If the fob battery dies, use the blade in the driver's door cylinder to get in.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2011 Challenger. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2011 Challenger does not have a DIY button-sequence or ignition-turn relearn for adding a smart fob. Programming requires a tool that connects through the OBD port and communicates with the vehicle's immobilizer using a PIN-based security sequence. Without that, the fob will not be recognized and the car will not start with it. If you already bought the fob, bring it along when you call us.

Q: My 2011 Challenger fob works fine but the buttons feel mushy and one barely registers. Do I need a whole new fob?

Probably not. After more than a decade the rubber button pad on these flip fobs loses tension and the contacts underneath can wear. The board is almost always still good. If the housing is intact and the blade pivot is still tight, a shell swap with a fresh button pad fixes the feel and the response without replacing or reprogramming anything.

2011 Dodge Challenger Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was working Third Avenue Village on a Tuesday when the call came in. A nurse practitioner at the urgent care clinic nearby needed a spare key for her 2011 Challenger.

Before she called me she had done her homework, looked up my BSIS license number on the state website, checked the Google Guaranteed badge, and read through the reviews. She told me that straight out. Her last experience with a locksmith had been rough: no license number on the receipt, vague pricing up front, and a key that stopped working within two weeks with no way to reach the person.

She had one working fob left and wanted a spare before that one gave out too.

I pulled up to the clinic parking lot, verified the vehicle, and got to work through the OBD port with my programmer. The 2011 Challenger uses a PIN-based security sequence to register new fobs, and the tool walks through that handshake with the vehicle's immobilizer before any new key gets accepted. I cut the blade to match her existing key, ran the programming sequence, and tested every function on both fobs before I put my tools away. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and the emergency blade operation in the door cylinder.

She watched the whole thing from about three feet away. When both fobs worked clean she said she just wanted a paper trail this time. Real receipt, real license number, real phone number she could call back.

She got all three. The dealer had quoted her more on the phone for the same job. She saved a good chunk and didn't have to leave the parking lot.

Dodge Challenger Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2011 Challenger?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call a tow truck or the dealer. All-keys-lost on a 2011 Challenger means the immobilizer has to be accessed through the OBD port, the old key registrations get cleared, and new fobs get enrolled from scratch. Dealers typically want the car on their lot, which means a tow if it won't move, then a wait for parts and a service appointment.
