2006 Ford F-150 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was working North Broadway in Escondido, parked in front of a house with a silver 2006 F-150 sitting in the driveway. The owner had one key left and the fob portion had stopped working. He'd replaced the CR2032 himself, but the lock and unlock buttons were still dead. The key blade still started the truck, so he'd been living with that for a few weeks.

He figured it was just the fob, maybe a bad aftermarket battery. Except the battery he put in was fine.

I got into it. The blade cut matched the truck, so we were good mechanically. I connected to the OBD port under the dash, pulled into the immobilizer module, and ran the key learn sequence. The transponder side registered clean. Then I looked closer at the remote portion and tested signal output. The board inside the fob housing had a cracked solder joint near one of the button contacts, probably from being dropped at some point. The new CR2032 was doing its job, but the signal wasn't getting where it needed to go.

I swapped him into a properly assembled replacement remote head key, programmed both the transponder and the remote, and then did what I always do: walked away from the truck, tested lock and unlock at range, tested the panic button, started the truck three times cold. Everything came back clean.

He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait of several days just to get an appointment. I was done in under an hour, at his driveway, on a Tuesday morning.
