Over on the Westside Escondido side, near one of the laundromats off West Valley Parkway, I got a call from a woman who was stuck and frustrated in a way that told me right away she had already tried to solve this once.

I programmed a fresh remote head key with the correct transponder matched to her truck, ran through the full registration, and tested both the ignition and every button on the fob before I handed it over. While I had the fob open I swapped the CR2032 too, because the one in there was borderline and there was no reason to leave a weak battery in a key she was counting on.
Truck started clean every time after that. She asked if the dealer could have caught this faster. Probably, but she would have been towed in, waited for a service appointment, and paid a significant amount more for the privilege. I was done at the laundromat parking lot in under an hour.
