A woman staying near Downtown Fallbrook called me on a weeknight. She was traveling, had one key, and it stopped unlocking the van.

The swing doors wouldn't respond to the fob, the interior lights weren't coming on as she approached, and when she finally got in with the mechanical backup blade, the dash showed a key-not-detected warning before it cleared on its own and let her start it. I walked every function: both swing door lock buttons, the lock, the unlock, and the full approach sequence. All solid once the fresh CR2450 was seated correctly and the contact points were clean.

She had been quoted a tow plus a next-day appointment at a dealer two towns over. She didn't need any of that. A battery and a connection check, done in the parking lot, for a fraction of what they wanted to charge her just to get started.
