2007 Hyundai Tucson Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
The call came from a guy near Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. He had a 2007 Tucson that would start in the morning without a problem, but by afternoon it was cranking and cutting out after about two seconds. He had already swapped the fob battery himself. Didn't help.
He told me another locksmith had made him a spare key a couple weeks earlier. That was the thread I pulled.
When I got there, I asked him to try both keys. The original started the car. The newer one cranked and died. Every time. Classic immobilizer rejection, not an electrical gremlin. The engine would fire briefly because the starter circuit is separate, but the immobilizer was killing fuel delivery the moment it failed verification.
I read the chip in the newer key. It was the wrong variant for this vehicle. Close enough to pass a quick bench test, not close enough to pass what the immobilizer actually checks. The locksmith before me probably tested it with a lock and unlock and called it done. That only checks the remote side. The transponder side is a separate conversation between the chip and the immobilizer, and this one was losing that conversation every time.
I programmed a correct replacement, re-enrolled it to his Tucson, and swapped the CR2032 in the shell while I was at it. Tested it through four start cycles on site before I left. He had been two days away from calling a dealer and sitting in a waiting room for a few hours. The whole job took less time than that wait would have.
