2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already running calls in Poway on a Friday evening when a couple messaged me from the parking lot near the old train depot in Old Poway Park. They had been at one of the weekend events and came back to find their 2000 Eclipse not starting. Key turned fine. Engine cranked. Then it died immediately. They thought it was a fuel problem.
It wasn't.
That crank-and-stall pattern on a late-90s to early-2000s Mitsubishi with a transponder key usually means one thing: the immobilizer didn't recognize the chip. Their key looked fine from the outside, but it had been on a ring with a bunch of other keys and something had cracked the head where the chip lives. You'd never know by looking at it.
I had the right blank already cut and a working transponder programmed on site. First start after the new key, the car ran.
They had already called the dealer earlier that week for something unrelated and knew the wait time and what they charge. Getting it handled in the parking lot, same night, for a fraction of what they were expecting to spend was not something they were planning on. But that's how it went.
When you carry the right parts and know the procedure, a Friday night job is no different than a Tuesday morning.
