A customer in Rancho Santa Fe had just bought a used 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse off Facebook Marketplace. Good deal, clean title, one key. The seller told him to get a spare on his own. He figured a Mitsubishi key would be cheap since it's not a luxury brand. The dealer corrected that fast.

I met him and used my VVDI2 to clone the ID46 chip from his working key onto a fresh blank so the immobilizer accepted it without a full system reset. His Eclipse uses a plain transponder blade, FCC ID , with the standard MIT3 keyway. I cut the blade on my machine and synced it through OBD.
He drove off with two working keys for less than the dealer wanted for one. That spare also means his next replacement is a simple add-a-key instead of all-keys-lost, which on a Mitsubishi can mean PIN extraction and bench work on the ETACS module.
