A guy in the Westwood area of Rancho Bernardo flagged me down after calling from a gas station. He had pulled in to fill up his 2002 Eclipse and noticed his key was binding in the ignition cylinder, not smoothly turning, just catching and grinding slightly on the way out. He could feel the blade flexing. He had the good sense not to force it.
The blade was worn down enough that the wafers in the cylinder were dragging on it. Not snapped yet, but close. I decoded the lock from the door cylinder where the cuts were still readable, got a clean read, and cut a fresh key blade to match.
From there it was transponder programming through the OBD port. One session, both keys present because he happened to have his spare in his wallet, and the immobilizer learned them both. The whole thing wrapped up at the gas station, no tow, no waiting room.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a multi-day turnaround just to get a key made. I was done before his tank finished pumping.
