He had been gone a week. Business trip, parked in the economy lot off the 905, one of those long rows where every car looks the same under the fluorescent lights. He walked up to his 2011 Toyota Corolla, hit the fob, and nothing. No click, no flash, no response from any button.

After that I connected my scan tool to confirm the transponder was still properly registered and there were no stored faults in the security system worth chasing. Everything was clean. He had a working key, a spare battery in the glovebox, and his car in the same spot it had been sitting all week.
He mentioned the dealer quote almost as an aside. I just nodded. The whole job was done before the shuttle from his terminal would have made a second loop.
