2016 Toyota Yaris
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2016 Toyota Yaris Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked near the Spring Valley border, just inside Lemon Grove. He had driven to visit someone, turned the car off, and when he came back out the remote would not respond at all. No lock, no unlock, nothing. He tried holding the buttons longer. Still nothing. He assumed the key was dead and the car was stuck.

I told him over the phone to try turning the key in the door lock manually, just to confirm the car itself was fine. It was. The remote head just was not responding.

When I got there I popped the key head open on the spot. CR2016, which is a thinner cell than people expect, and it was reading basically zero voltage. He had no idea how long it had been in there.

Fresh CR2016, snapped it back together, and the remote responded on the first press.

The thing is, he had already called the dealer before he called me. They told him to tow it in because they could not confirm over the phone whether it needed a full key replacement or just a battery. He would have paid for the tow, sat in the waiting room, and watched a service writer swap a two-dollar battery for whatever they charge for that visit.

I was there in under thirty minutes. He saved a good chunk just by calling a mobile tech first.
