2017 Toyota Yaris
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2017 Toyota Yaris Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was close to 9 p.m. when the call came in. The guy was in a business park off the edge of Blossom Valley in Lakeside, standing next to his 2017 Yaris in an empty lot. His only key was gone. He had turned out every pocket, checked the office, walked the sidewalk. Nothing.

He was already pricing tow trucks when he found me.

First thing I asked: can you read me the VIN off the base of your windshield, driver's side? Long pause. Then he read it back. That was the turn. With the VIN I knew exactly what I was loading into the van before I left.

When I got there, he was under a single parking lot light, arms crossed, phone in hand like he was waiting for bad news. I set up on the hood, verified ownership, and got to work. The 2017 Yaris uses a four-button smart fob, and an all-keys-lost job on this car means the old key data gets wiped and a fresh fob gets enrolled through the diagnostic port. I cut the emergency blade to match the vehicle, programmed the new fob, and confirmed every button and the door lock cylinders before I put my tools away.

He drove home that night instead of waiting on a tow.

The dealer was closed. And even if they had been open, he would have waited days and paid a lot more. He saved a good chunk by calling a mobile tech who showed up to him instead. The VIN is genuinely the most useful thing you can give me ahead of time. Text it before I arrive and the whole job moves faster.
