Late evening in the Wagon Wheel neighborhood in Oxnard, a 2016 Acura RDX sat in its spot with the dash lit up and no way to start.
The owner had one smart key. It stopped locking the doors earlier in the day. By the time I got there, the cluster was flashing the green key indicator and showing a keyless access warning. Fresh CR2032 did nothing.
This RDX uses the KR580399900 proximity remote, part number 72147-TZ3-A51. Five buttons, remote start built in, Philips ID47 chip on the board. I verified the FCC ID on the back, then connected to the immobilizer through the OBD port and ran the all keys lost routine. On these second gen RDX models, the system wipes stored keys and forces a timed security access before it will register new ones.
While the countdown ran, I cut the emergency insert and checked the door cylinder under the handle cap. Once programming opened up, I registered the new fob and synced the remote functions.
Lock, unlock, hatch, remote start, then push button start with the fob in pocket range. The dash cleared. No more warning message.
He thought it was headed for a tow and a dealer appointment. It was handled right there in his parking space for way less hassle.
