The HU101 ignition cylinder on Focus, Fusion, Escape, and Explorer models wears down over time. The wafers inside get loose, the key starts sticking, and eventually the customer thinks the whole ignition assembly needs replacing. The dealer will happily sell them that.

A customer at the gym in Port Hueneme had been fighting his 2018 Ford Edge ignition for weeks. He'd wiggle the key, push it in hard, sometimes wait a minute before it would turn.
