2014 Ford Edge Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman at Rincon Beach Park in Carpinteria called me because her 2014 Edge wouldn't start after a morning walk. Push the button, nothing. Dash just said "No Key Detected." She'd already swapped the CR2032 twice with fresh ones from the gas station up the road.

I found her in the parking lot holding the fob like it owed her money.

First thing I did was pop the fob open on the tailgate. The battery was fine. The problem was the little spring contact on the board had gone flat, probably from someone prying the old battery out with a screwdriver instead of sliding it. The contact wasn't making solid pressure against the CR2032. Took me about two minutes to reshape it with a pick, clean the pads, and reseat the battery.

Snapped the fob shut, handed it to her, and told her to walk ten feet away and try the door handle. Clicked open. She got in, hit the start button, and the 3.5L fired right up. Then I walked every function: lock, unlock, panic, hatch release, remote start. All five buttons good. Handle touch lock on the driver door, good.

She thought she needed a whole new smart key. She didn't. The fob internals were fine, just that one bent contact. I was in and out faster than a dealer would have even pulled up her VIN in their system.
