Got a call from a woman in the Rice Avenue corridor in Oxnard. She was at the vet with her dog and down to her last key. She'd lost the other one somewhere in the house weeks ago and kept meaning to get a spare made. Then the panic set in when the remaining key's remote buttons stopped locking the doors.
She had her VIN texted to me before I left. Registration photo, clean and readable. That told me everything: 2007 Edge SE, PATS with the 4D-63 chip, OUCD6000022 remote head key, 3-button, 164-R8070 shell.
I had the blank prepped in the van on the way over. When I pulled up, she handed me the working key. I cloned the 4D-63 transponder onto the new blank with my VVDI2, cut the key to her lock, and programmed the remote. Tested the lock, unlock, and trunk buttons from across the parking lot. Then tested the transponder by starting the engine cold, no codes, no theft light blinking.
Whole thing took about 18 minutes from the time I parked. She was back in the waiting room before her dog came out.
Her existing key just needed a fresh CR2032 for the remote side. The transponder was fine the whole time. Dead battery in the fob doesn't kill the chip, it just kills the remote buttons. Two separate systems living in the same housing.
