2010 Ford Edge Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy near the Carpinteria Seal Sanctuary. Road trip, gas station, key snapped clean in the ignition of his 2010 Ford Edge. Half the blade jammed in the cylinder, the other half in his hand. Engine still running because he was afraid to force it the rest of the way.
I could hear it in his voice. That "I don't know what to do next" tone.
Drove out and found him standing next to the Edge with the door open, engine idling, broken key piece visible inside the H75 cylinder. I used my Lishi pick and decoder for the H75 keyway to extract the broken blade without scoring the wafers. Came out clean. Then I decoded the lock right there on the cylinder and cut a fresh key on my mobile machine.
His OUCD6000022 remote head key is all one piece, blade and buttons together, so I needed a new shell, a fresh 80-bit transponder chip, and a CR2032 battery. Programmed the new chip to his PATS through the OBD-II port. One security cycle, about ten minutes of wait time while the PCM authenticates.
Tested the remote lock, unlock, and trunk release. All three buttons responded first try. Engine started smooth.
He was back on the 101 in under an hour from the time he called. A snapped key at a gas station on a trip feels like the whole day is gone. For the 2010 Edge, it is one of the more straightforward jobs I run. Quick extraction, clean decode, program, and done.
