2011 Ford Edge Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got called out to a mechanic shop in the Downtown Carpinteria area for a 2011 Ford Edge that another locksmith had already walked away from.
Here's what happened. The owner lost both smart keys. The first tech who showed up started an all-keys-lost procedure on the M3N5WY8609 fob, but the car battery was soft. Voltage dropped mid-programming, and the body control module, the 7T4T-15604-CJ on these, threw a security fault and locked up. The other guy couldn't clear it. He left.
The mechanic called me. I hooked my jump pack to the battery posts before I touched anything else. Stable 12.6 volts, confirmed with a meter. Then I connected my IM608 and pulled the BCM fault codes. Security access denied, PATS related. Cleared the faults, confirmed the BCM was responding clean, and started a fresh all-keys-lost sequence from scratch.
The new 5-button proximity fob (part number 164-R8092) learned on the first cycle. "No Key Detected" gone. Push-button start working. I walked the doors, tested lock and unlock range from 30 feet, checked the trunk release button, and ran the passive entry on both front handles.
I showed the shop guys what killed the first attempt. Low voltage during the security handshake is the number one reason this job goes sideways. I carry a jump pack on every call specifically for this.
Took about an hour and a half, which is longer than a normal smart key job. But the alternative was a flatbed ride to the dealer and days without the car.
