A guy near Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai called me about his 2020 Edge. He was boxed in on the second level of an underground garage with a low ceiling and tight corners. I connected my diagnostic tool through the OBD-II port on the BCM (body control module, part number JU5T-15604-xB on these second-gen Edges) and started the PATS key learn procedure. Ford's system enforces a 10-minute security countdown before it accepts a new key, so I used that window to cut the HU101 emergency blade and build the fob. Five-button, 164-R8288 housing, fresh CR2450, new 128-bit chip written to match his VIN.
After the countdown cleared, registration took about two minutes. I walked the doors, tested push-button start, checked that the liftgate button on the fob triggered the power hatch, and made sure the remote start sequence held.
He drove out on his own. The car never needed a tow. Whole thing took about 40 minutes, and it cost him a fraction of what the dealer quoted, which didn't even include the tow he would have needed to get there.
