2022 Ford Edge Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman in Meiners Oaks called on a Tuesday afternoon. She had a working key, but she'd been meaning to get a spare cut and programmed since she bought the car, and now her sister was borrowing it regularly and she wanted a backup in the house. Simple enough job on paper.
What made it interesting was what she'd already done. She'd ordered a fob online, the correct shape, matched to the factory FCC ID on the original. Figured she'd be halfway there. The problem was nobody told her that having the right blank fob is just the starting point on a 2022 Edge. The fob still has to be enrolled through the OBD port with diagnostic equipment before the vehicle security system will recognize it at all. It's not like a house key where you cut it and you're done.
I pulled up to her place off Creek Road, set up at the curb, and walked her through what was about to happen. Connected to the OBD port, ran the add-a-key sequence, and watched it count through the security handshake. Her original fob stayed enrolled. The new one came in alongside it. Then I tested every button, both door handles for touch unlock, and confirmed push-button start with both fobs before I packed up.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a price and a wait time that stretched into the following week. The job was done in her driveway before her coffee got cold. That's usually how it goes out here.
