2015 Ford Edge
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2015 Ford Edge Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already working near Carpinteria State Beach on a Friday evening when my phone rang. A couple had come out from a night near the beach and their 2015 Ford Edge wasn't responding to the fob at all.

No lock, no unlock, push-button start wasn't seeing the key. They'd tried holding the fob closer to the start button, which is actually the right instinct, but it still wouldn't fire. They weren't sure if the car was broken or the key was, and they were starting to think they were stuck there until Monday.

I told them I was close and had the right parts on the van. Fifteen minutes later I was in the parking lot.

I opened the fob on the hood of my van. Both CR2025 cells were nearly flat. Not dead enough to look obviously wrong, just dead enough to kill communication. Swapped both cells, seated them correctly, and the fob woke right up. Range came back, the door handles responded to touch, and the push-button start caught on the first press.

That was it. No programming needed. Just two batteries that should have been replaced together the first time.

They'd been ready to call a tow and come back for the car in the morning. The dealer route on a Friday night would have meant a wait until at least Monday and a bill that was a fraction of what I charged. They drove home that night.

When the parts are already in the van, a 9pm Friday call runs the same as a Tuesday morning.
