2009 Ford Edge Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a woman near Leadbetter Beach in Santa Barbara. Her 2009 Ford Edge would not respond to her remote head key at all. No unlock, no trunk, nothing. She was standing in a hospital parking lot with groceries in the back seat, July heat, and a bag of ice cream on borrowed time.
She had already called the dealer. Earliest they could see her was the next afternoon. That is a long time when your frozen stuff is sweating through the bag.
I was about 20 minutes out. Got there, used a long-reach kit to get the door open, and plugged my Autel IM608 into the OBD-II port under the dash. Her OUCD6000022 remote head key was the problem. The CR2032 was completely flat and the battery contact inside the shell had started to corrode, enough to mess with the connection even if you dropped a fresh cell in.
I cut and programmed a new 164-R8070 remote head key, synced the 80-bit PATS transponder through the PCM, and tested lock, unlock, and trunk release from multiple distances. Then I cycled the ignition twice to make sure the immobilizer handshake was clean. No theft light blinking on the dash. Just a solid start.
From her phone call to her engine running was under 50 minutes. The groceries survived. Sometimes the whole job is just showing up before the ice cream loses.
