2000 Volkswagen Cabrio Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
He called around 11pm from a parking lot off Saviers Road near the Wagon Wheel area of Oxnard. His 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio wouldn't start after his shift ended. No crank, no response, just a dead feeling when he went to leave.
The dealer was closed and a tow meant the car sat somewhere overnight with the same problem waiting in the morning.
I pulled up and the first thing I checked was battery voltage before touching anything else. It was sitting low enough that the system had likely dropped out mid-cycle at some point recently. I stabilized it, then got into the immobilizer system through the OBD port. The fob had fallen out of the car's learned key memory, almost certainly during a voltage dip. The car had no record of the key anymore.
I re-enrolled the existing flip key. No new key needed, no new cutting, just restoring what the car had forgotten. It started on the first turn after that.
I told him the real problem was the battery, not the key. The key just got caught in the middle when the voltage dropped low enough to scramble the stored pairing. He needed to deal with the battery before it happened again.
He made his opening shift. The dealer conversation never happened.
