Got a call from a guy near the Hidden Valley neighborhood in Santa Barbara. He had hiked out to one of the trailheads early that morning and somewhere between the car and the ridge, his only Rabbit key disappeared. Checked every pocket, went back up the trail, nothing. His 2006 Rabbit was sitting in the dirt lot and he was locked out with no spare.

I started with my HU66 Lishi tool on the driver door. The Mk5 Rabbit uses the standard VW HU66 six-wafer lock, so I picked and decoded the cut right there at the car. Once I had the bitting, I cut a new blade for the 1K0959753P flip key shell.
Then the real work. I pulled the immobilizer data from the Immo3 system through the OBD port, ran the all-keys-lost procedure to wipe the old key's Megamos 48 crypto pairing, and registered the new transponder as primary. Programmed the four-button remote at 315 MHz and tested lock, unlock, trunk, and panic.
His Rabbit started in that dirt lot. Lock decode to engine running was about 45 minutes.
He had already looked up what the dealer would charge and how long the VIN-cut key order takes. He just said "yeah, glad I called you instead" and drove home.
