The HON66 lock is simple to decode, the key blank is common, and the immobilizer programming on these ID46 chip cars is the quickest Honda and Acura made. A detailer at an auto detail shop in San Ysidro had a customer's 1996 Acura RL on the lot and the key had fallen behind a piece of equipment. He couldn't find it anywhere. I got there and used my VVDI2 to read the lock and generate a matching key from scratch since the original was lost somewhere in the shop. His customer's remote-head key, FCC ID CWT72147KA, was a standard 4-button unit. The new key was cut, chipped, and turning the engine within 30 minutes.
The detailer moved the car, found the original key later that afternoon behind a shelf, and the customer never knew. Total was $105. Dealer would have charged $222 and taken days. For these older Acura remote-head models, it's one of the fastest jobs I run.
