2006 Acura RL Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A job near the Naval Base Area in Coronado, late afternoon on a Tuesday. The owner had driven over from out of state to visit family and brought one key.
Just the one. It snapped at the neck, right where the plastic head meets the blade, while it was sitting in his pocket. The blade half went with the car. The head half was in his hand. He found me through a search, called, and asked if I could actually come to him because he did not want to leave the vehicle.
I pulled up and he handed me the broken head piece. The blade was still in the door lock. I extracted it cleanly, which is usually the part people are dreading when a key breaks off flush.
Once I had both pieces I could verify the cut, decode the blade, and cut a new key on my machine in the van. Then the transponder in the new key head gets programmed to talk to the immobilizer. That part is done through the OBD port with the right tooling. The whole job took under an hour at the curb.
He had called the Acura dealer earlier. They wanted to schedule him for the following week and told him the key had to be ordered. He was flying home in two days. The mobile route got him back on the road the same evening, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him.
