2010 Audi A6 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a resident out at The Crosby in Rancho Santa Fe. He had a 2010 Audi A6 and a broken flip key - the blade had snapped off inside the door lock. Not bent, not stuck. Clean break. He had been using a worn copy for a while, and the tip finally gave out when the lock was stiff from sitting in the heat.
He had already called another locksmith who told him the lock cylinder would need to be drilled out. New cylinder, new key, big bill. He wasn't thrilled about that answer, so he kept looking and found me.
When I got there, the blade fragment was lodged in the door lock but hadn't gone deep. I used a dedicated Audi-fit pick tool to work around the fragment and slide it out without contacting the wafer surfaces. Once it was clear, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position to get the exact cut depths. The original flip key head was still intact with the transponder chip undamaged, so I transferred the board and chip into a fresh shell, cut a new blade to match the decoded lock, and reprogrammed the remote function on site.
No drilling. The cylinder stayed in the car. The door looked exactly the same when I left.
He told me the other locksmith's estimate was nearly double what he paid me. That part I let him bring up. I was just glad he didn't let someone drill a perfectly good lock.
