Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2017 GMC Terrain Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a vet tech working near Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach. She had a sick dog in the back seat of her 2017 GMC Terrain and a flip key that had gone completely unresponsive. The car wouldn't start, the remotes were dead, and she had a vet appointment across town in under two hours.

She was standing in the parking lot when she called me. I told her to try the mechanical blade in the door lock as a first check while I drove out. It turned but the car still wouldn't start, which told me the fob wasn't being read at all, not just a dead remote signal.

I got there in about 35 minutes. Plugged into the OBD port and ran the security access sequence. GM's system has a timed countdown built into the relearn, so while that counted down I cut the replacement blade and prepped the new fob. When the timer cleared, I registered the new key, cycled the ignition, and ran through every function: start, lock, unlock, the trunk release, and the panic button.

She made the appointment with time to spare. The dog stayed in the back seat the whole time. The car never left the parking lot. She mentioned what the dealer quoted her on a previous key job, and all I said was that she saved a good chunk today.
