2018 GMC Terrain
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2018 GMC Terrain Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Fanita Ranch, a woman called me about her 2018 Terrain. She had one key left and wanted a backup before the inevitable happened. Her words were something like, "I just don't want to be stuck somewhere."

I pulled up with her VIN already confirmed. The Terrain takes a 5-button smart fob, and I had the right blank with me. I decoded her door lock, cut the blade to match, then connected my diagnostic equipment through the OBD port and ran the security access sequence to register the new fob to her vehicle. The whole process has a timed element built into the security handshake, so you can't rush it, but it moves on its own once it starts. Total time on site was right around 35 minutes.

She watched most of it from the driveway. When I handed her the finished key, she tested the lock, unlock, and the remote functions herself. Everything came back clean.

She mentioned she'd called the dealer first. They told her to bring it in, leave it, and come back. She asked how long and they couldn't give her a number. That part I've heard before.
