I got a call from a woman in Cardiff-by-the-Sea on a Tuesday morning. She runs a small studio out of her house near the beach and had just gotten back from a walk to find her CR-Z key had stopped locking the doors remotely. The car still started fine. Then we moved on to the actual reason she called: cutting and programming a spare. Because her original key was working and the VIN was already confirmed, I went straight to programming. I cut the new blade to her vehicle, enrolled the new key through the OBD port, and tested both engine start and all remote functions on the spare before I handed it over.
She was back inside working before the marine layer even burned off. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her for a replacement key and a diagnostic fee before they would even look at the fob issue. She saved a good chunk just by having me come out instead.
