I replaced the fob battery, reprogrammed the transponder through OBD, and tested every function. I also walked him through the backup start procedure on his CR-Z in case a fob ever died on him again.
From his phone call to his engine running was 40 minutes, and it cost $223. The dealer wanted $402 and a next-day appointment. He made it to the pharmacy, got his prescription, and went home. Sometimes the difference between a locksmith and a dealer isn't convenience. It's getting the car running before it becomes a health problem.
