1996 Infiniti J30
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

1996 Infiniti J30 Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy parked near the pier in Downtown IB, right off Palm Avenue. It was a weeknight, not super late, but dark enough that he was doing that thing where you keep patting your pockets hoping the key shows up.

It was a 1996 J30. He said he had a spare at home but his roommate was gone for the weekend and he wasn't about to sit there until Monday. He sounded a little embarrassed, like he thought this was going to be a whole thing.

I asked him to pull up his registration on his phone and give me the VIN. He had it in about two minutes. That told me exactly what I needed to know before I even left my van.

When I got there he was leaning against the J30, arms crossed, watching me pull up. I decoded the lock right on site, cut a replacement key to match, and tested it in the door and the ignition. The whole job was done before he finished telling me about how the key probably fell out at the beach.

He kept saying he figured he'd need a tow. The idea that a locksmith would just show up and cut a key on the spot, no dealer, no tow, no waiting until Tuesday morning, had not really occurred to him. The dealer was never part of his plan anyway since they would have needed the car there during business hours and charged him more for the privilege.

He drove off in about twenty minutes from when I pulled up. That is pretty much the whole story.
