1998 Kia Sportage
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

1998 Kia Sportage Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Otay Mesa West called about her 1998 Kia Sportage. Her only key had snapped at the bow, the part you grip, and she was left holding a stub that would not turn anything. She had already called the dealer and got bounced around before someone told her to just come in. No appointment, no timeline, no quote over the phone.

She found me instead.

I drove to her place, brought my decoder and a key blank that fits the Sportage's ignition and door cylinders for that generation. I decoded the cut by reading the door lock directly, then cut a replacement key on site and tested it in the ignition, the driver door, and the passenger door. The whole visit was maybe twenty minutes once I was parked.

She was surprised it was that simple. No tow, no waiting room, no service writer explaining why it takes two days. Just a working key and she was back on her day.

The dealer comparison barely came up. She just said she paid a fraction of what they would have charged, and left it at that.
